As we have been meeting over a few weeks now, all of our research has encouraged us to define some items as a group operating together before we start defining the job description for a new pastor. Both the book, Search: The Pastoral Search Committee Handbook, as well as guidance from ECO’s website strongly recommended that we agree on our group’s vision and values. So this post is to document a few things specifically about our group.

We are what ECO calls a PNC – a Pastor Nominating Committee – as our role is to bring before the congregation a candidate that we nominate for consideration to be called by River’s Edge members. So we have updated our self-naming to switch to our new denomination’s label. While we have been introduced a couple of times during the Sunday morning service, here’s a listing of the committee members here:

Allyson R
Evan O
Gary A
John M
Josh G
Mary M
Megan F
Rachel D

We have created a new email address, pnc@recconline.org, which can be used by River’s Edge folks or applicants/candidates, and is delivered to each member listed above.

Finally, below are the Vision, Mission, and Shared Values that we have agreed to operate under as a group.

Vision:

To see RECC flourishing in a collaborative, healthy, and uplifting relationship with a new pastoral leader, such that together as passionate followers of Christ Jesus we are fully engaged in Christ’s mission to our community and the world.

Mission:

To work as a unified team, seeking God’s purpose and direction, in pursuing with excellence the design, planning, and execution of a pastoral search and in identifying and recommending the most capable and suitable candidate(s) available.

Shared Values:

Integrity – demonstrate honesty and strong moral principles in all interactions

Accountability – being open to and appreciative of feedback regarding commitment, priority, and responsibility

Teamwork – contribute to a positive working atmosphere, cohesiveness, recognition of complementary skills, and overall effectiveness and efficiency

Transparency – being authentic and open allowing others to clearly see true intentions and actions

Being rooted in a personal faith walk – prioritize time in God’s word and personal and corporate prayer

Versatility – demonstrate the capacity to change or adjust to different situations, tasks, roles, perspectives, or outcomes

Humility – being free from pride, arrogance, and boasting; being others-oriented, extending gratitude and appreciation, and demonstrating willingness to learn and grow
